Day 1: Arrive Kilmanjaro – Moshi On arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport, you will be met by your travel representative and transfer to your hotel. Often considered the easiest and one of the most popular routes to the summit, the Marangu route is used by almost 40% of all climbers. In the evening, there will be a briefing by the climb representatives, who will share information on your upcoming climb to ensure you are ready to embark on your adventure. Aishi Machame Hotel

Day 2: Moshi – Mandara Huts (5-7 hours walking/11km) Your climb starts at the National Park Gate at 1,830m above sea level. After completing entrance formalities, climb through attractive unspoilt forest to the comfortable wooden ‘A’ frame Mandara Huts (2,700m above sea level). There is rich birdlife at the huts and monkeys are often seen as well. The afternoon is free to rest or alternatively take an afternoon hike to the volcanic remains of Maundi Crater. Day 3: Mandara Huts – Horombo Huts (5-6 hours walking/10km) After breakfast, depart Mandara Hut to start a moderate trek towards the second high-altitude camp: Horombo Hut (3,720 m). Upon reaching the camp, you will be treated to views of two volcanoes at once, Kibo and Mawenzi. After lunch, you will have to complete an acclimatization hike in the direction of Kibo Hut with a 200-meter gain in altitude, and then hike back down to Horombo Hut where dinner will be prepared for you. Day 4: Horombo Huts – Kibo Hut (4-8 hours walking/10km) The terrain will change to scree and the landscape will become very much high altitude wilderness as it’s a gradual climb towards the lunar desert of the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. The arrival time at Kibo Hut (4,700m) is normally midday. The remainder of the day is spent preparing for the final climb before a very early night! (BLD) Kibo Mountain Huts

Day 5: Kibo Huts – Uhuru Peak – Horombo (9-12 hours walking/16km) The final push to the summit begins at night by torchlight with one guide for every two climbers – expect to be at Gillman’s Point by sunrise. Continue on to Uhuru Peak (5,896 m.), passing close to the spectacular glaciers around the summit area. You can descend to the nearest glacier if desired. Then you will return to Kibo Camp and after a two hour rest continue your descent to Horombo Hut (3,720 m). (BLD) Horombo Mountain Huts

Day 6: Horombo – Moshi (5-6 hours walking/18km) Retrace your steps with a pleasant moorland walk to Mandara and then a lovely forest walk to the National Park gates. When you finish the climb, there will be a vehicle waiting to meet you and transfer you back to Moshi for the night. (BLD) Aishi Machame Hotel

Day 7: Depart Kilimanjaro After breakfast, transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport for your onward flight. (B)
