Day 1: Cuzco – Llamachimpana Depart Cuzco and head towards the South Valley. Stop in Checacupe and visit its Colonial Temple before continuing on to the community of Pitumarca, considered one of the most important centres of native Andean textiles. After an hour and a half trek through beautiful Andean Landscapes you will spend the night near the village of Llamachimpana. (BLD)
Day 2: Llamachimpana – Vinicunca’Rainbow Mountain’ – Cuzco Wake up early to begin the ascent to the Vinicunca. En route, see wildlife such as chinchillas, vicunas, and huallatas and, if you are very lucky, the endangered Andean cat. After walking for approximately three and a half hours, you will come to the top to enjoy the main attraction of this experience — Vinicunca, The Rainbow Mountain with its spectacular coloured rock formations. Once at the top, partake in a small Andean ceremony with coca leaves as gratitude for allowing you to reach the top successfully. After spending a little time admiring the scenery you will hike back down around four to five hours and return by road to Cuzco. (BL) Note: This walk requires a high level of fitness and appropriate clothing and footwear for a high altitude mountain hike. Accommodation is basic camping but comfortable.
